Blog Assignment 2- Foreign Aid: Yes or No

Today in class we discussed the topic question should the U.S. continue to give foreign aid during the recession? Remember the key terms I underlined in that question. Foreign aid is any money, medicine, or supplies given to other countries. This could be for a disaster, war, disease or development. The other term was recession. A recession is a time where the economy is not doing as well as it should. The unemployement rate is higher and the market is bad. The United States is currently in a state or recession. So after studying these terms and the topic write a 3-5 sentence statement telling me if you believe the U.S. should continue to give foreign aid during the recession and tell me why you believe that.(put your name at the end of the comment) Don't forget the stats and figures I gave you today. I have attached some of the articles you already have and a few new ones as well for your info.
Countries with largest amount of foreign aid given (in billions of dollars)
Countries that receive aid from the U.S.

  1. yes

I think we should still give the money because it is for the people who need it. For example the poor inocent people in Iraq who are suffering from the war. We would want money if we had an acciedent. But as a way to help the job problem maybe we could reduce the amount we are giving so we could get some of the money to. Another reason is if we just stop giving then the other countries relying dependently on us will crash and it might even start a war! Those are my reasons of why I say yes.

  2. No because we work really hard for the money. We need the money we have for necessities such food, clothes, and electricity. Other countries rely on us so what happens if we run out of money that wouldn't help anyone.

  3. No, because the economy in the United States is bad because of the recession. People here are losing their homes and kids are hungry. Until we fix our problems here we should not give away our money. When we fix our problems we should give some money to countries who really need it and are our friends. Sometimes it is bad to give away money to countries that we don't know if they are faking that they need money because they might spend it on bad stuff that they don't need.

  6. Yes! We are one of the richest countries in the world. We have enough money to please most of our needs even though we are going through recession. Some countries are worse off by alot. I think we should be generous and give away our money for a good cause. It will help lots of people in other countries.

  7. NO and YES.
Yes we are one of the world's most ''richest'' countries and we should help countries like Kenya when some of the children and families don't have food, water, shelter, and clothing. No because if we keep giving countries like Iraq money then they will get much more stronger and might be able to defeat us. Also if we keep on giving away our money we will have problems during our recession.

And we need to save some money and when the economy gets better we can help others in need.

  10. Yes, because we are the world's richest country, if not the richest. So even during a recession we chould give to those who need it because poorer countries have nothing to give.
